19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
