Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Officers mentioned they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Officers then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

A senior representative stated the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
